Infra-PaX is being built now. There are two ways to be part of it.

Interested in doing a PhD with us?

Two fully-funded, four-year PhD positions sit at the centre of the research project. They run in parallel, across the same partner organisations, so the two researchers share access, fieldwork and findings rather than working alone. Both are supervised by Eleni Papadonikolaki at TU Delft.

Micro-level

Paradox inside the organisation

You would follow leaders through the strategic episodes where the tension between digitalisation and sustainability actually surfaces — using process research, interviews and extended ethnographic fieldwork inside partner organisations.

Suits someone drawn to close, qualitative fieldwork and comfortable spending months embedded in an organisation.

Macro-level

Paradox across the ecosystem

You would map the same tensions between organisations — owners, contractors, regulators, communities — using a multi-level perspective and systems thinking to trace how path-dependences build up across the ecosystem.

Suits someone drawn to systems-level analysis and the politics of how sectors change.

The positions have not been advertised yet. Applications go through TU Delft's own recruitment process, and this page will link to them the day they open.

Interested in becoming a research partner?

We are looking for infrastructure organisations willing to be studied properly — not surveyed once, but followed over time, across the decisions where digitalisation and sustainability pull against each other.

What we ask

Access: to people, to meetings, to the documents behind a decision. Time from leaders and their teams willing to reflect on tensions they are still in the middle of. A relationship measured in trust and learning, not a single interview. All data collection methods are confidential, anonymous and adhere to the university's ethical processes.

What you get

An outside, rigorous account of how your organisation is actually handling the twin transition. Findings fed back through ongoing developmental and validation workshops rather than a report at the end. And a seat in a group of like-minded leaders and organisations comparing notes on the same paradoxes.
